Weather in Belize

As a tropical country, Belize has warm temperatures year-round, with the weather split between a wet season and a dry season. The location of Belize also makes it susceptible to hurricanes during the Atlantic hurricane season, which is between the beginning of June and the end of November. Hurricanes are the most likely to occur in Belize between August and October. Based on hurricane risk, therefore, the best time to visit Belize would be between December and May. However, hurricane season isn’t the only factor to consider about Belize, and there are other aspects to the tropical destination’s varied weather.

temperature

It doesn’t really get cold in Belize, even in the winter. That said, the temperature does rise and fall somewhat with the seasons. It is hottest from March to October when the highs are in the high eighties and the lows are in the seventies. From November to February, the highs are in the low eighties and the lows are in the sixties. Most people prefer to visit Belize during these cooler months, to avoid the extreme heat of the middle of the year. This is part of why the best and most popular time to go to Belize is between November and April.

rains

It rains a lot in Belize, and while some months are wetter than others, there are only a few “dry” months of the year. Between June and October, the average precipitation in Belize is greater than ten inches. Between November and January, the average precipitation is between five and ten inches. Finally, between February and May, the average precipitation is between two and four inches, with March and April being the driest months. Hurricanes are also more likely to occur in Belize during its wettest months, so it makes sense that most visitors consider the best months to be the drier, cooler months.

Average Tourist Volume

Unfortunately, since everyone wants to travel to Belize at the same time of year, it can get pretty crowded and expensive at that time. You may also want to consider tourist volume when picking the best time to visit Belize. Belize sees the highest tourist volume between November and February, with the peak time being over the Christmas/New Year’s holidays. The lowest dips in tourist volume are in April and September, but it remains fairly low throughout the middle of the year. In addition to being less crowded during these months, Belize is also likely to have lower hotel prices and greater availability.

When is the rainy season in Belize?

Although there is rain in Belize throughout most of the year, some months are considered to be the peak rainy season. June through October are the wettest months and the rainiest part of the rainy season, with around ten inches of rain on average. From November to January, there is a moderate amount of rain, and from February to May, there is relatively light rain, with March and April being the driest months of the year.

When is hurricane season in Belize?

Technically, hurricane season in Belize is the Atlantic hurricane season, between the beginning of June and the end of November. When is the best time to go to Belize?

The best time to travel to Belize depends on what is most important to you. If you prefer to have the best weather, then you should go to Belize during the winter or spring, in order to avoid extreme heat, heavy rainfall, and hurricanes. However, if the weather isn’t an important factor in your trip, then you may want to consider the fact that hotels have greater availability, lower rates, and fewer tourists during months when the weather is bad.

What are the hottest months in Belize?
