Hotel Stari Grad is an exquisite boutique hotel that was once the home of a 19th-century noblewoman. It’s been restored and updated, but retains its original character and charm. The hotel is located in the small town of Stari Grad on the Island of Krk, which translates to “old city” in English. The island is just over a 90-minute drive from Rijeka Airport, making it a perfect getaway no matter where you’re coming from. Hotel Stari Grad features 10 guestrooms and suites that are luxurious but still have that rustic feel. They all have high ceilings with exposed wooden beams, stone walls, fireplaces, wooden floors, and private terraces or balconies. There are also several common spaces like a library, bar with wine cellar, and swimming pool with panoramic views of the sea.

Awards and Recognition

In 2017, the hotel was named one of the top 100 hotels in Croatia by National Geographic Traveller. It has also won the Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor every year since it opened. The hotel’s restaurant was awarded 2 Gagro awards in 2018, which is the highest award for gastronomy in Croatia. Gagro is the Croatian Gastronomic Society. The hotel was named one of the top ten hotels in Croatia by Conde Nast Traveler in 2018. The hotel was also shortlisted for the title of best hotel in Croatia in the 2019 World Travel Awards.

Best Season to Visit

Despite being a coastal town, Stari Grad has a warm Mediterranean-type climate year round. The best times to visit are between late spring and early autumn. If you want to visit in the winter months, make sure to bundle up as it can get quite chilly. The town is very popular with tourists from June to September, so it might be worth travelling during a quieter time if you want to avoid the crowds.
